Pain Congress Holds Satellite Symposia At Remote Locations

The Tenth World Congress on Pain will take place August 17 to 22 in San Diego, Calif. at the San Diego Convention Center. This multidisciplinary meeting has been organized by the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP), which has more than 6,500 members and is based in Seattle. The meeting is expected to be of interest to basic scientists, physicians, psychologists, dentists, nurses, physical therapists, pharmacists, and other health professionals. The scientific program is intended to provide delegates with an overview of the state-of-the-art of a wide range of topics in the areas of acute, chronic, and cancer pain; to provide practical reviews of current research and therapies in these areas; and to enable delegates to participate in formal and informal discussions with international experts.

A notable aspect of this meeting is the satellite symposia, which will be held at remote locations before and after the main conference. For example, there will be a symposium entitled “Pain and Negative Emotion” held Aug 11 to 13 in Salt Lake City; another, “Pain and Opiates” will be held Aug. 12 and 13 in Stanford, Calif.; “Molecular Mechanisms of Pain and the New Age of Analgesia” will take place Aug. 12 to 14 in Montreal, Canada; “Neuropatic Pain” will be held Aug. 14 in Tijuana, Mexico; and a course on opioids will be held Aug. 23 and 24 in Los Angeles, after the main conference.
