Paul Weber Takes Helm at the Alliance for CME

Paul D. Weber is taking the helm as executive director of the Alliance for CME, Birmingham, Ala., beginning May 1. "I'm excited about joining the talented staff of the Alliance for CME and helping them develop new educational approaches that will assist physicians in improving the quality of care delivered to their patients," Weber said in a press release.

A medical association executive with more than 30 years’ experience in the healthcare field, Weber joins ACME from the California Medical Association, San Francisco, where he has served as chief operating officer for the past two years.

During his tenure at CMA, Weber spearheaded a national project that assists physicians in analyzing their prescribing patterns in order to help them improve patient care.

Prior to joining CMA, Weber spent 12 years with the Medical Society of New Jersey, Lawrenceville, where he served as chief operating officer/chief financial officer and deputy executive director. He participated in the formation of two national foundations that help uninsured and underserved populations.

Weber succeeds James Leist, EdD, who assumed the position of interim executive director in February. Leist replaced Bruce J. Bellande, PhD, who had served as the Alliance's executive director since 1996. For an interview with Bellande, in which he reflects on his decade of commitment to elevating the profession, the challenges facing the CME community today, and his vision of the future, click here.
