Tyra Hilliard

(Tyra Hilliard, Esq., CMP, CMI legal columnist focused on legal, risk management, and ethical issues)

  1. If you could be anywhere in the world, where would you be?
On a warm, sunny beach in a lounge chair, next to my husband.

  2. What's playing on your MP3 player?
It's an eclectic combination — everything from Josh Groban to Queen to the music from Les Miserables.

  3. If you could be a superhero, what superpower would you want?
The power to control other people's minds

  4. It's time for a second career — what do you choose?
Well, I'm on my third career already, but if we are talking fourth — probably running a charitable organization devoted to animal welfare.

  5. When your life story is made into a movie, what actor should play you?
    Laurie Metcalf

  6. What's the best book you have read in the past year?
The Book of Negroes by Lawrence Hill. It's a historically accurate, fictional account of a woman who is captured by slave traders in Africa and taken to the U.S. She travels up the coast to Nova Scotia, is freed, goes home to Africa, and ends up in England helping abolitionists lobby parliament to outlaw slave trading. It's an excellent and moving story.

  7. What's your hidden talent?
I'm a cat whisperer — cats who normally avoid people will often let me pet them.

  8. Who inspires you?
People who are selfless and altruistic and who don't hide behind excuses such as “I'm busy” or “I don't have the money” and instead freely give their time and resources to help others.

  9. If you could trade places with anyone (living or from history) for a week, who would you choose?
One of the first astronauts in space

  10. What do you do to stay healthy?
I try to eat right, walk at least a mile every day, laugh every day, and take vitamins.
