A GEMA an Idea for Golf Planners

In recognition that golf events aren’t just planned by tournament directors, the recently formed Golf Event Managers Association has announced that it would extend its educational services, tournament management instruction, and golf industry supplier opportunities to meeting planners and other non-golf pros who find themselves putting together a golf event.

The association, founded by Whitney McClelland, founder of GolfGuide, Inc., and Barry Palm, the former executive director of the event sponsors association for the PGA Tour, will address the administrative and logistical issues facing event managers who use golf events for business or fund-raising through regional symposia and a national conference next October in Las Vegas.

The first of its two-day seminar series for planners, "Marketing Sponsorships in a Challenging Economy," will be held June 22-24, 2003 at the Radisson Resort Parkway in Kissimmee, Fla.
