There are two events taking place on May 26, one in Washington, D.C., for association meeting planners and the other for Chicago-area conference centers users. One features a runner-up from the hit television series “The Apprentice”; and the other, magician and producer Bob Higa (“The Magic & Illusions of Higa”), who is well-known in the meetings industry for blending magic with a message.
Springtime
The 2005 Springtime Expo, the largest one-day trade show in the association and meetings industry, will be held at the Washington, DC Convention Center on May 26. Prior to the show, nearly a dozen education sessions will be offered concurrently on topics such as Microsoft tips and tricks, legal issues, international meetings, and trade show marketing campaigns. The event is presented by the Greater Washington Society of Association Executives Network in conjunction with The Center for Association Leadership.
And for all you “Apprentice” addicts, the general-session speaker will be Kwame Jackson, the runner-up from the first season of the NBC hit show. Jackson will discuss the business lessons learned during his experience, how teambuilding is essential to success, and the importance of individuality.
For the first time on the Springtime schedule of events, the International Association of Exhibition Management will offer two of its Certified in Exhibition Management Learning Programs on Wednesday, May 25,at the Washington, D.C. Convention Center.

IACC’s Turn
The first of what The International Association of Conference Centers hopes to be a series of education events for meeting planners will take place on at the Eaglewood Conference Resort & Spa in Itasca, Ill. Called “AmaZing Meetings…Discover the Magic,” the primary objective is to give participants a better understanding of the many ways that an effective meeting environment can have a positive impact on adult learners, the facilitator or meeting leader, and, ultimately, the organization.
“Planners can partner with conference centers to create truly ‘amazing’ meetings that engage participants and promote better retention and learning,” says Sue Tinnish, IACC’s Director of Training & Development, in a press release. Magician and producer Bob Higa will be the presenter.
The program will also feature a panel of seasoned customers who will discuss planning issues and compare experiences delivering successful events at various types of facilities.
