American Airlines has included severe acute respiratory syndrome in its Comfort Level policy, which allows its international and domestic travelers to make a one-time change to their tickets without paying the standard change fee. Tickets must be purchased by April 19 for travel through May 18, and trips rescheduled before the end of the year.
According to a statement from the airlines: "The policy is intended to help customers feel comfortable to go ahead and book tickets and travel knowing that, with the current world situation, if they feel it necessary to change their reservations for any reason that they can make a one-time change without penalty."
The airline also says that it has policies in place to restrict travel by those who may be infected with SARS or other potentially contagious illnesses, and that it has developed procedures in conjunction with the Centers for Disease Control to "respond in flight should any passenger display symptoms of an unexplained illness."
