First World Congress of the International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine to be Held in Amsterdam in July

The First World Congress of the International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (ISPRM) will be held at the Amsterdam RAI International Exhibition and Congress Centre in The Netherlands, from July 7 to 13, 2001. The ISPRM is the result of the merger, in November 1999, of the International Rehabilitation Medicine Association (IRMA) and the International Federation of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (IFPMR). Both organizations have organized altogether twenty-one international congresses all over the world in the past fifty years. So, the ISPRM First World Congress is actually the twenty second in a row of world congresses on Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine. The Dutch members of ISPRM and the Netherlands Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine are the local organizers of this congress.

The ISPRM works to assist physical and rehabilitation medicine specialists, doctors as well as other health care workers, to become more effective practitioners and to improve the quality of life of people with impairments and disabilities all over the world. Major efforts to achieve this are the convening of international congresses every two years and providing rehabilitation medicine input to international health organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO).
