Hawaiian Airlines Joins Bankruptcy List
Hawaiian Airlines this week joined US Airways and United on the list of airlines that have filed for Chapter 11 reorganization under federal bankruptcy law. The Hawaiian airline, which plans to get back in the black by fall, maintains that it will continue to operate normally, honor tickets, redeem frequent-flier miles, and not pull back on any of its flight schedules.
According to a report from TravelWireNews, Hawaiian Governor Linda Lingle isn’t too concerned about fewer travelers coming to Hawaii—at least, not yet. According to a report compiled by the Committee on War Preparedness last week, Japanese travelers will wreak the largest havok on the state’s travel and tourism industry as a result of the war; Hawaii is already experiencing a war-related drop in visitors from Asia.
