New and Renovated
In North Charleston, S.C., the $15 million RESIDENCE INN BY MARRIOTT — CHARLESTON AIRPORT HOTEL opened in October. The 150-suite property, about two miles from the airport, has 1,700 square feet of meeting space.
The 225-room CROWNE PLAZA HOTEL, KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa., opened in September with 20,000 square feet of meeting space, a 120-seat amphitheater, and a ballroom. The conference center is awaiting IACC approval.
After sustaining considerable damage from Hurricane Charley in August, SANIBEL HARBOUR RESORT & SPA in Fort Myers, Fla., plans a grand reopening February 1 after an extensive remodeling. The resort has 401 guest units and a 45,000-square-foot meeting and banquet facility. There is also a 40,000-square-foot spa and a tennis complex.
Opened in October, THE LODGE AT BUCKBERRY CREEK in East Tennessee's Smoky Mountains is modeled after the Great Camps of the Adirondacks. Nestled above Gatlinburg, the lodge has 46 suites, all with fireplaces and high-speed Internet access. The lodge offers several meeting spaces for small retreats.
West Palm Beach, Fla.'s, only full-service Marriott opened in October. The 352-room WEST PALM BEACH MARRIOTT was rebranded from a Sheraton. It has a kosher kitchen and 18,000 square feet of meeting space, and serves as the headquarters hotel for the new Palm Beach County Convention Center.
Opening early this year, THE CARLTON HOTEL in Atascadero, Calif., is an elegant restoration of a famed old property frequented by the likes of Jack Benny and Bette Davis. Midway between Los Angeles and San Francisco, the hotel will feature 52 rooms and easy access to more than 70 Central Coast wineries.
At the SHERATON NATIONAL HOTEL in Arlington, Va., a $25 million renovation will be completed in the first quarter of this year. Renovation of the Rooftop Galaxy Ballroom, with its panoramic views of the capital, is the final phase of the project.
THE DOUBLETREE CRYSTAL CITY in Arlington, Va., is undergoing a major, three-phase renovation. Phase I, completed this past fall, refurbished most public areas, including the Skydome Lounge, 27,000 square feet of meeting space, and the fitness center. Wireless Internet access and a new fire safety system have been added. Phase II and Phase III will include renovations of the North and South Towers' 631 guest rooms and suites.
