Do you eat too much, sleep too little, and generally get stressed out on business trips? Join the crowd, says the 2003 National Business Travel Monitor, recently released by Yesawich, Pepperdine, Brown & Russell. The study found that more than half of frequent business travelers don’t get enough sleep on the road, and more than a quarter find travel a hassle and feel stressed out. A third also say they eat too much, a quarter say they feel lonely, and 8 percent say they drink too much on business trips.

So, what do today’s road warriors really want when they’re out of town? Both men and women put clean, well-maintained rooms at the top of the list, with 97 percent and 99 percent, respectively, followed closely by friendly, efficient service. More than three quarters of both genders appreciate express check-in/check out. While 64 percent of the men surveyed liked complimentary airport shuttle service, 80 percent of women said it was a must-have. Women also went more for the complimentary breakfast, at 75 percent vs. 63 percent of the men.

Both genders also ranked business-friendly services like free high-speed Internet and wireless Internet access from their rooms, as well as the creature comforts: a variety of restaurants at the hotel, 24-hour room service, in-room microwaves, and spa services. Both genders also said they appreciate perks such as frequent flyer miles and frequent stay points.
