A recent study on Americans' preferences in hotel chains, conducted by Opinion Research Corporation, names Holiday Inn and Marriott as the top winners, with 18 percent and 16 percent, respectively, of the more than 1,000 people involved in the study choosing them as their favorite chains.
Other findings include:
-Holiday Inn is particularly popular with 18- to 25-year-olds (31 percent); adults who live in rural areas (26 percent); Midwestern adults (23 percent); and those with a high school education or less (23 percent).
-While Marriott won the top spot among the most-affluent and best-educated, this group also liked Holiday Inn, placing it in a second-place tie with Hilton.
-Marriott also is popular with adults living in the Western U.S. (21 percent), and those living in households earning $75,000 or more annually (23 percent).
