David Peckinpaugh, formerly the chief marketing officer for Conferon Global Services, Twinsburg, Ohio, a mammoth meeting planning and event services company, has been named the new president and CEO of the San Diego Convention and Visitors Bureau. Peckinpaugh replaces Reint Reinders, who leaves the bureau next month after 15 years as CEO. Peckinpaugh joined Conferon in 1998 after a successful hotel career, including a two-year stint at the Hyatt Regency San Diego, now the Manchester Grand Hyatt, from 1993 to 1995.
Meanwhile, Ed Shartar, CEO of CGS, announced that Rick Binford, CMP, will replace Peckinpaugh. Binford joined Conferon in 1999 to head up its sales network. Binford’s background includes stints at the New York City and Detroit CVBs as well as at Northwest Airlines. Binford’s promotion is one of several recent changes announced by CGS as it undergoes an organizational restructuring.
