Dolce La Hulpe Brussels

The 264-room high-tech Dolce La Hulpe offers VoIP and free Wi-Fi along with 43,000 sq. ft. of meeting space, including two auditoriums and an 8,000-sq.-ft. multifunction room.


Fairmont Towers, Heliopolis

The Fairmont Towers Heliopolis debuted in February. Five minutes from Cairo International Airport, the hotel has 247 rooms, 48,000 sq. ft. of function space, and a Willow Stream Spa.

Port Ghalib Resort

Sun International has opened the Port Ghalib Resort on the Red Sea. The resort includes the 309-room Palace, the 347-room Sahara Sun Sands, and the 292-room Sahara Sun Oasis, along with a convention center with a ballroom for 1,500 attendees and 18 breakout rooms.

St. Regis Cairo

Set to open in 2011 as part of a mixed-use development overlooking the Nile River, the St. Regis Cairo will have 299 rooms, 103 serviced apartments, 8,000 sq. ft. of meeting space, and a spa.


Charing Cross

Previously a Thistle Hotel, the 239-room Charing Cross reopened last fall after a major investment by Guoman Hotels, a luxury hotel chain spun off of Thistle, to restore the 1865 hotel to its Victorian glory. Updates included restoration of the Betjeman Room, one of the hotel's eight meeting rooms and one of London's most ornate, with a marble dance floor. dome-shaped high ceiling, and a capacity of 150 theater-style.

Guoman will invest 150 million pounds in its six London hotels, each of which has a distinctive history, but all of which feature exceptional meeting space and state-of-the-art technology, according to Sanjay Nijhawan, chief operating officer. Other Guoman hotels include The Tower, with 801 rooms and 19 meeting rooms, in London's financial district; and the Cumberland Hotel, with 1,109 rooms, 26 meeting rooms, and a Michelin-star restaurant. This year the 280-room Royal Horseguards near Buckingham Palace will reopen after a major redo and include One Whitehall Place, dedicated to meetings. Within two years Guoman will also renovate and reopen the Marble Arch and The Grosvenor.


Derby Hotel Paris

High-end European hotel group Derby Hotels opens its first Paris property this year, in a historic building next to the Opera House. The 94-room hotel will have a pool, spa, two restaurants, a music bar, and a terrace with spectacular views of the Sacré-Coeur.

Hotel Villa Massalia

Concorde Hotels & Resorts' newest addition opened last September in Marseille. The 140-room hotel features the Spa Siwa, along with 10,700 sq. ft. of meeting space. Free Wi-Fi is available in common areas and guest rooms, a feature the Concorde Group has introduced in 15 European hotels.


The Charles Hotel

The Charles Hotel became Rocco Forte's third hotel in Germany when it opened in Munich last summer. The hotel features 132 rooms overlooking the Old Botanical Gardens, as well as a ballroom for up to 700 guests.

Dolce Bad Nauheim

In December, Dolce International signed a 20-year management contract with Inchydoney Partnership to manage the Dolce Bad Nauheim until 2028. Located in a large park in the city of Bad Nauheim, the 159-room property has 27 meeting rooms.

Maritim Hotel Dusseldorf

The largest convention hotel in the German state of North Rhine Westphalia has opened at Dusseldorf Airport. The hotel has 65,000 sq. ft. of meeting space, including two auditoriums, one with 2,500 seats and the other with 1,100 seats.


Hotel Europe

After a major renovation, the elegant 109-room Hotel Europe on the Lakes of Killarney debuted the Conference & Events Centre, with floor-to-ceiling picture windows, a ballroom, eight meeting rooms, and a boardroom. Also new is a 50,000-sq.-ft. luxury spa, which offers lakeside treatment rooms.


Rome Cavalieri Hilton

The Rome Cavalieri Hilton will become the first European property to join The Waldorf=Astoria Collection. Plans for enhancements, including a new Congress Center, will be developed this year. The 370-room hotel has a Michelin-rated three-star restaurant.


Fairmont Monte Carlo

Last May the Monaco Grand Hotel became the Fairmont Monte Carlo. A renovation gave the 619-room hotel the lines of an ocean liner, hugging the water's edge just below the Monte Carlo Casino. The new lobby bar, with its glamorous nautical design, offers views of the Riviera. The hotel has 18 function rooms, three restaurants, a year-round heated pool, a modern fitness center, and the Sun Casino.

Hotel Metropole

In December, the 146-room Hotel Metropole, a member of Leading Hotels of the World, was awarded the group's “Commitment to Quality” award for best hotel in Europe with more than 100 rooms. The Mediterranee Room holds 160 for a reception, while the Theatre Room has 110 seats. For relaxation, try the new Metropole ESPA Monte Carlo.

The Netherlands

Dylan Hotel

Amsterdam's 41-room Dylan Hotel, housed in a 17th-century landmark building on the famous Keizersgracht canal, has unveiled a series of new meeting break ideas, including a private canal boat ride. The hotel has four meeting rooms for 150 attendees.

Grand Hotel Amrath

The Grand Hotel Amrath opened last spring in the former Scheepvaarthuis (Shipping House) in Amsterdam. The interior of the 163-room hotel pays homage to its past as a headquarters for shipping companies, with nautical-themed guest rooms. Among eight meeting rooms is the Council Chamber, with an original brass chandelier, monumental board table, and dark wood paneling.


InterContinental Doha West Bay

The InterContinental Doha West Bay opens in March 2009 in the city's business district. The 540-room hotel tower will have a conference center and business center, plus a spa and outdoor pool on the 46th floor.

Millennium Hotel Doha

The 226-room Millennium Hotel Doha opened in May 2007 in the commercial and diplomatic district. Its Grand Ballroom holds 300 guests for a banquet. The hotel also offers a business center, rooftop pool, and spa.

St. Regis Doha

Starwood will open the 322-room St. Regis Doha in 2010 on the beachfront in the West Bay area. Also featured will be 18 waterfront bungalows, 44,000 sq. ft. of meeting space, a spa, and a cigar bar.



An $11 million renovation wrapped up at the renowned Gleneagles resort this spring when a new spa was unveiled with 20 treatment rooms. New “Spirit Suites” were also added to the resort's top floor, all named after brands from Diageo, the drinks corporation and parent company of Gleneagles. A new restaurant was added along with a Gundog School, the only one of its kind in the world. The school complements the resort's other outdoor activities, such as falconry, fishing, clay target shooting, and, of course, golf at three championship courses. The 242-room resort offers two-dozen meeting rooms for groups of up to 360 guests.


Barceló Oviedo Cervantes

The 72-room Barceló Oviedo Cervantes Hotel debuted in October in a building that dates to 1915 in Spain's Asturias region. With a façade typical of a traditional Asturian “casona” (mansion), the 72-room hotel has 12 meeting rooms that hold up to 200 people.

Barceló Sancti Petri Hotel

The Barcelé Sancti Petri opened in Chiclana, Cádiz, last September. Overlooking the five-mile stretch of beach at La Barossa, the 195-room hotel also offers 91 apartments and two meeting rooms for up to 400 people. Recreation includes a spa, wellness center, five pools, and nearby golf.

Radisson SAS Hotel Madrid Prado

Opening in Madrid in late 2009, the 54-room Radisson SAS Hotel Madrid Prado will be located in front of the Prado Museum and next to the new Caixa Forum cultural center. Plans call for meeting rooms, spa, and fitness center.

Saudi Arabia

Park Hyatt Jeddah

The 142-room Park Hyatt Jeddah opens in September on a huge equestrian complex on the Red Sea near the business district. Next to the hotel, a 27,000-sq.-ft conference center will have an 8,600-sq.-ft. ballroom, seven meeting rooms, and a courtyard for receptions for 800 guests. Also planned is a spa and wellness center.

United Arab Emirates

Starwood Luxury Collection Resort

Starwood will open a Luxury Collection Resort in Ras Al Khaimah, U.A.E., in 2011. The hotel is in the Saraya Islands, a mixed-use destination on the Arabian Gulf. Plans call for 300 rooms and 43,000 sq. ft. of meeting space. When complete, Saraya Islands will comprise six hotels, a marina, and more.

Regent Emirates Pearl

Set to open in 2010, The Regent Emirates Pearl in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, will have 365 rooms and 70 apartments. An exclusive beach club and spa are planned, along with a ballroom, six boardrooms, and two meeting rooms.

Rocco Forte Collection

Rocco Forte will manage a new property in Abu Dhabi, the brand's first in the Middle East. The 282-room hotel, not yet named, opens in 2010 with nine function rooms, the largest of which will be 8,600 sq. ft., with 6,000 sq. ft. of pre-function space.

Marriott International

Marriott will expand its Middle East portfolio from 26 to 65 hotels by 2011. New hotels will include a 411-room Renaissance and 195-room Courtyard by Marriott, both in Abu Dhabi.

Hyatt at Capital Centre, Abu Dhabi

The 200-room hotel will open in 2009 as part of Capital Centre, an $8 billion mixed-use district under development that will include the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, a “micro-city“ of residential, commercial, and hotel properties, marina, and more.

Atlantis, The Palm

Atlantis, The Palm opens in September with 1,539 rooms and 60,000 sq. ft. of meeting space at the center of Dubai's Palm Jumeirah, a manmade residential and resort island.

Raffles Dubai

Raffles Hotels & Resorts has welcomed its latest addition, the 248-suite Raffles Dubai. The hotel has 11 meeting rooms plus the Raffles Ballroom, which seats 500 for a banquet.

InterContinental Dubai Festival City

The 498-room hotel recently unveiled its Spa InterContinental. Also featured is the 40,660-sq.-ft. Event Centre, with 24-hour business center and free high-speed Wi-Fi in public areas.

Park Hyatt Dubai

The 225-room Park Hyatt, located next to the Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club, offers five meeting rooms, including the 8,000-sq.-ft. Creek Ballroom, which holds 500 for a banquet.
