Benchmark Hospitality has appointed Tory Parks director of sales and marketing for Del Lago Resort on Lake Conroe near Houston. Parks will lead a sales team of nine. She was formerly regional sales manager for Del Lago.
At Marco Island Marriott Resort & Golf Club in Marco Island, Fla., Donald Sawin has been named sales manager. Sawin most recently was director of recreation at the resort.
Naples Beach (Fla.) Hotel & Golf Club has named Jessica Pasek sales manager for the southern states and Jeremy Hinds sales manager for the Mid-Atlantic region. Pasek was formerly sales manager for the Hilton Hotel on Marco Island, Fla.; Hinds was national sales manager for the Naples Hilton & Towers.
At the Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers, Anne Tigges has been appointed associate director of group sales. She will oversee the corporate and association markets on the West Coast. Previously, Tigges was senior sales manager for the Hilton Chicago.
Bob Cantler has been named director of sales and marketing at MeadowView Conference Resort and Convention Center in Kingsport, Tenn. Cantler most recently was key account manager for ConAgra Inc.
In Plano, Texas, Dawn M. Dixon has been appointed director of sales and marketing of the new Doubletree Hotel & Executive Meeting Center Plano — Legacy Town Center. Dixon was formerly director of sales of the Hotel InterContinental, Dallas.
Mike Satterfield has been promoted to director of sales and marketing at Pointe Hilton Resorts in Phoenix. Satterfield, who has worked for Pointe Hilton Resorts for 18 years, most recently as director of sales, will oversee marketing efforts of Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort and Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort.
Kim Greca has been promoted to director of sales at the Walt Disney World Swan Hotel and Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Also at the resorts, Vera Spoto has been appointed associate director of sales. She comes from Walt Disney World and will fill Greca's former position.
At Bell Harbor International Conference Center on Seattle's waterfront, Jennifer Hansen and Jeffrey Shilling have been hired as event planning managers. Hansen was previously with The Harbor Club in Seattle as banquet sales and catering manager. Shilling previously served as operation manager for The Bite of Seattle and Taste of Tacoma festivals.
At Mandarin Oriental, Deon Wang has been named regional group sales manager, western U.S. and Canada. Wang will be responsible for high-end meetings and incentive business. She was most recently national sales manager for The Ritz-Carlton, Huntington Hotel & Spa in Pasadena, Calif. She will be based in Los Angeles.
Lisa Bauer has been appointed vice president of sales and marketing at Our Lucaya Beach & Golf Resort, Grand Bahama Island. Bauer was senior vice president of marketing and customer service for Legend Airlines and vice president of sales and distribution for Midwest Express Airlines.
Bill Zabelny has been appointed director of national accounts of the Las Vegas office of Resort Meetings Consortium, a conglomerate of organizations and corporations that plan meetings nationwide. Before joining RMC, Zabelny was corporate sales manager at MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
Felicia (Marockie) Fisher has been appointed vice president, hotel sales at Loews Hotels. Fisher will be based in New York City. Before this promotion, she was regional vice president of marketing.
At Starwood Hotels & Resorts Hawaii, Lisa DeCambra Morrill has been appointed director of travel industry sales. She most recently was director of sales and marketing for Molokai Ranch and Lodge on the Island of Molokai.
Millennium is establishing a new Northern California sales office, which will be headed by Darla Lane. As director for the San Francisco office, her responsibilities will include corporate sales and meetings and conventions in the Silicon Valley and northern California. Lane had been area sales director for Forte and Le Meridien Hotels & Resorts.
Deborah Castillo has been appointed to the newly created position of regional director of marketing at Sonesta International Hotels Corp. She will oversee sales efforts for Sonesta resorts in Florida and direct marketing initiatives for Sonesta's properties in South America and the Middle East. Castillo was formerly with Loews Miami Beach Hotel as director of sales and marketing.
At the Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel in Dana Point, Calif., Ripley Vaughn has been appointed national sales manager. Vaughn will represent the hotel in the western region, including Los Angeles. Since 1998, he has served as sales manager at La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, Calif.
Gary White has been promoted to executive vice president of HelmsBriscoe. White joined the company in 1998 from Hilton Hotels Corp., where he was director of national sales. HelmsBriscoe, headquartered in Scottsdale, Ariz., is a full-service meeting management firm.

The just-opened Ritz-Carlton in Half Moon Bay, Calif., overlooks the Pacific and is 30 minutes from San Francisco International Airport. The 261-room golf and spa resort offers 17,000 square feet of function space for groups of up to 400 people. Meeting space includes the octagon-shaped Observatory, an intimate boardroom, 7,100-foot divisible ballroom, and three outdoor function areas. www.ritzcarlton.com
Newport Beach, Calif., the town renowned for yachts and mansions, is about to welcome its first full-service resort hotel, the Balboa Bay Club and Resort. The resort, which overlooks the Pacific, will welcome guests in January 2003. The 159-room property sits on the site of the historic Balboa Bay Club, and will offer a 7,500-square-foot ballroom accommodating up to 550 people banquet-style. Eight additional function rooms, a boardroom, and an outdoor courtyard complete the meeting-facilities picture. www.balboabayclub.com
Spring saw the opening of the Kalia Tower at Hilton Hawaiian Village, Honolulu. The $95 million, 25-story tower is surrounded by lush landscaping. Two tower levels totaling 42,000 square feet are dedicated to spa and health facilities that open this summer. Most unusual is the tower's Bishop Museum at Kãlia — an interactive center dedicated to Hawaiian culture. The Kalia Executive Conference Center offers meeting rooms equipped with high-speed Internet lines and video- and teleconferencing facilities. With the addition of the tower, Hilton Hawaiian Village offers nearly 175,000 square feet of function space as well as about 3,000 guest rooms. www.hilton.com
The Westin, St. Louis, Mo., a Starwood property, recently celebrated its grand opening. The luxury downtown property offers 257 guest rooms and more than 9,000 square feet of meeting space. Starwood also recently opened The Westin Grand Bohemian, Orlando, Fla., a 250-room luxury property. It offers 9,600 square feet of flexible meeting space, which includes a 2,500-square-foot ballroom and seven additional meeting rooms. www.westin.com
The Hyatt Regency Cleveland was built inside the 111-year-old Arcade building and features restorations of the marble exterior and interior mosaic-tiled walkways and brass and gilded railings. The most dramatic restoration was of the 360-foot grand arcade glass skylight. The Hyatt Regency offers 293 luxury rooms. The hotel will offer four boardrooms and five meeting rooms covering a total of 12,000 square feet. www.hyatt.com
Virginia Crossings Conference Resort, Richmond, Va., is scheduled to open in August and will offer a 182-room, self-contained meeting environment for meetings of 10 to 1,000 people. The resort, managed by Harrison Conference Centers, a division of Hilton Hotels Corp., will have 23,000 square feet of meeting facilities in 24 meeting rooms.
The final phase of the Ritz-Carlton Naples, Naples, Fla.'s, extensive renovation consists of a 51,000-square-foot spa. The 463-room property offers 35,000 square feet of meeting and banquet facilities. www.ritzcarlton.com
Copperwynd, Scottsdale, Ariz., a 32-room, eight-villa resort and spa, recently broke ground on a 4,100-square-foot meeting space scheduled to open in November. Called The Retreat, the meeting space offers spectacular views and full catering facilities. www.copperwynd.com
The century-old golf course at the 510-room Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa, Asheville, N.C., closed June 1 for a $2 million renovation. The course should reopen before the end of the year. Caribe Royale Resort Suites and Villas, Orlando, Fla., is building a convention center that will feature a 40,000-square-foot ballroom, 20 breakout rooms, two registration desks, and two meeting planner offices. The project, scheduled for completion in early 2003, will bring total meeting space to 150,000 square feet. The resort offers 1,218 one-bedroom suites and 120 two-bedroom, two-bath villas.
San Francisco's former Financial Center Building will be transformed into a 362-room luxury hotel scheduled to open its doors by the end of December 2001. Omni Hotels will spend more than $100 million restoring the 17-story building, which first welcomed guests in 1926. Trapp Family Lodge, Stowe, Vt., has completed a $4.5 million, 24,000-square-foot addition that includes three meeting rooms and 23 guest rooms and suites. Located within the more than 2,500 square feet of function space, the largest room can seat up to 120 people theater-style. The meeting space features cathedral ceilings, post-and-beam structures, a woodburning fireplace, slate terrace, balcony, and state-of-the-art audiovisual, sound, and lighting systems. The 25-story, 506-room luxury San Jose Marriott — adjacent to the San Jose McEnery Convention Center in downtown San Jose, Calif. — is expected to open early in 2003. Featuring a distinctive “high-tech” style, the 430,000-square-foot property will include 17 flexible meeting rooms with outdoor terraces, a fitness center with pool and spa, and a concierge club.
On the outskirts of Sedona, Ariz., and 90 minutes north of Phoenix, the 219 all-suite Hilton Sedona Resort was recently unveiled. Formerly the Doubletree Sedona Resort, the new Hilton Sedona offers a casually elegant Southwestern design and a total of 16,500 square feet of flexible meeting space at its executive meeting center. Each room is steps from the 18-hole, par-71 Sedona Golf Resort. The resort also offers a spa and racquet club on site, as well as the new, two-tiered Cascades Pool which sports waterfalls, a whirlpool, and 5,000 square feet of water. www.hilton.com
On the tony East side of midtown Manhattan, the former Loews New York will be reinvented by way of a $17 million, three-phase refurbishment. The newly christened 722-room Metropolitan Hotel has completed phase one, which included renovations to the facade, lobby, restaurant, bar, business class lounge, and meeting space. Phase two will include refurbishment of 250 business-class rooms, which will offer high-speed Internet access, and data ports. Early 2002 will see the balance of the guest rooms renovated. Wyndham International Inc. recently signed on to manage a new, full-service property in downtown Van-couver, British Columbia. Set to open in 2004, the Wyndham will offer about 300 guest rooms and more than 16,000 square feet of meeting space, including an 8,000-square-foot ballroom.
Radisson Hotel Narita Airport, Tokyo, a 501-room property, has completed a major renovation of many of its key public areas and a new business center. The property offers more than 14,000 square feet of flexible meeting space on three floors. www.radisson.com
Hyatt International recently announced plans to open the Park Hyatt Seoul, Korea, in 2002. The 265-room property will occupy the top 16 floors of the 45-story I Tower in the Gangnam business district. Facilities will include a ballroom that seats 500 and a conference center designed to accommodate up to 700.
