Steve Heitzner has been appointed vice president of sales and marketing for Marriott Lodging, Western Region. His territory will include Oregon, California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Washington, and Alaska. Heitzner formerly was market director of resort strategy for the Marriott and Renaissance Southwest Desert Resorts.

Robert Spinelli has been named executive vice president of technology and production at Event411.com Inc., an application service provider of online meeting management and attendee registration solutions. Spinelli's background includes a 10-year post as president of Strategic Systems Consulting. Also at Event411, Bill Zullo has been promoted to vice president of product strategy and development.

Gina Farris has been named director of sales at the TradeWinds Island Grand Resort on St. Pete Beach, Fla., the flagship property of the TradeWinds Beach Resorts & Conference Centers. Farris has been with the property for more than six years and recently served as assistant director of sales. A 15-year sales veteran, Farris is responsible for sales solicitation in the Washington, D.C., area. Additionally, Mark Moser, CMP, has been appointed director of convention services and catering for the TradeWinds' three St. Pete Beach properties, which also include the Sirata Beach and the Sandpiper Hotel and Suites. Moser had been director of catering and convention services at the Hotel Inter-Continental Miami.

Jeffrey Hahn has been appointed director of sales and marketing at the Doubletree Tampa (Fla.) Airport — Westshore. Hahn was most recently national account manager for the Lodging Division of the Florida Power Corp.; prior to that, he worked for the Belleview Biltmore Resort and Spa in Clearwater, Fla., as vice president of sales and marketing.

Kristine Stocker has been appointed sales manager in charge of group sales from west of the Mississippi at the Wyndham Anatole in Dallas. Before joining Wyndham, Stocker was a corporate sales manager at Adam's Mark Hotel in Dallas.

Chet Carroll has been named sales manager for the Westin Mission Hills Resort in Rancho Mirage, Calif. Carroll had been senior sales manager at the Caribe Royal Resort Suites in Orlando.

Maria Geddes has joined the Hilton Waterfront Beach Resort in Huntington Beach, Calif., as sales manager. Her sales efforts will be concentrated in the Orange County area. Most recently, Geddes managed the hotel's retail outlets.

Ric Nicholson has been appointed director of sales and marketing at the Sheraton Seattle Hotel and Towers. Nicholson had been director of sales and marketing at the Hyatt Regency Bellevue (Wash.) before making the move across the lake.

The Emerald Pointe Resort & Conference Center, formerly the Hilton Lake Lanier Islands Resort, has become a member of the International Association of Conference Centers. Emerald Pointe Resort is one of seven properties in the KSL Resorts portfolio, all of which are owned and operated by KSL Recreation Corp. KSL has invested more than $20 million in Lake Lanier Islands, which is 30 minutes north of Atlanta, since 1996. Emerald Pointe offers 216 rooms at the main resort and 30 two-bedroom lake houses.

Wyndham Newark Airport will open late this year after a $32 million reconstruction of the former Holiday Inn Jetport in Elizabeth, N.J. The new property will be an upscale, 394-room hotel with18,000 square feet of meeting space.

The 722-room Loews New York has become the Metropolitan Hotel, after the first phase of a $17 million restoration that brought back the hotel's 1961 Miami Beach — style look and feel. By the end of April, 260 business class rooms will have been renovated, and by April 2002, the other 462 guest rooms will have been redone as well. Plans are being made for a mezzanine-level conference center.

Millennium Hotels and Resorts is spending $70 million to upgrade the 12-property Regal Hotels portfolio that it recently acquired. As refurbishment projects are completed, the properties will be renamed Millennium Hotels. Among the dozen properties are the Regal Biltmore in Los Angeles, the Regal Knickerbocker in Chicago, the Regal Bostonian in Boston, the Regal Harvest House in Boulder, Colo., and the Regal McCormick Ranch in Scottsdale, Ariz.

The historic Westward Look Resort in Tucson, Ariz., has begun a multimillion-dollar renovation to include all 244 guest rooms, construction of a second ballroom, expansion of wellness center services, and the addition of a themed outdoor pavilion for group events. The resort currently offers 12,000 square feet of meeting space.

The new Citrus Suites-Santa Monica Beach has created a new category of properties by blending the amenities of a resort hotel with the comforts of home. All 70 furnished, one-bedroom apartments and two-level townhomes offer an extensive list of amenities that includes state-of-the-art kitchens with appliances and housewares, in-suite washer/dryer, two-line phones with free local calls and no service charges, and in-suite fax, answering machine, VCR, satellite TV, and high-speed Internet access, all at no additional charge. Citrus Suites-Santa Monica Beach offers residency periods of 30 days or more.

The Guam Marriott opens in April after a $13 million renovation of the former Pacific Star Hotel in Tumon, Guam. Marriott has upgraded and redesigned everything from the lobby, entrance, and guest rooms to the meeting space and landscaping. Guam is in the Western Pacific, approximately 1,550 miles south of Japan and 3,800 miles west of Hawaii.
