THE SHERATON ATLANTIC CITY recently launched the Sheraton Sweet Sleeper Bed. The 15-story hotel has more than 500 guest rooms, a fitness center, and a year-round heated pool. The hotel is at the foot of the Atlantic City Expressway, adjoining the convention center and next to the newly opened retail and entertainment center, The Walk. In January, the Mississippi Gaming Commission approved plans for the $235 million HARD ROCK HOTEL & CASINO BILOXI. It will be the first new hotel-casino to open on the Mississippi Gulf Coast since 1999. Construction began in February on the site of the former Gold Shore Casino, just east of the Beau Rivage Hotel-Casino. The Hard Rock will have a 50,000-square-foot gaming barge, a 306-room hotel, and a nightclub. Opening is planned for the third quarter of 2005.
MGM Mirage's BEAU RIVAGE RESORT AND CASINO on the Mississippi Gulf Coast just completed a $10 million project, converting the hotel's 26th floor to all suites, growing the total number of suites to 95. In Las Vegas, BELLAGIO debuted a new design for its guest rooms in the existing Bellagio Tower and in the $375 million Spa Tower, scheduled to open in December. The 2,602 Bellagio Tower and 928 Spa Tower guest rooms feature luxuries such as marble showers triple-sheeted linens, and duvets.
JW MARRIOTT LAS VEGAS RESORT, SPA & GOLF has established a new Executive Golf Desk at which guests can reserve priority rounds on 10 of Las Vegas' golf courses that surround the property, including TPC at The Canyons, co-host of the PGA Tour's Las Vegas Invitational; and Arroyo Golf Course, the newest Arnold Palmer Signature golf course. LE REVE HOTEL & CASINO, Steve Wynn's $2 billion mega-resort, is under construction and scheduled for an April 2005 opening. Plans call for a 50-story tower with 2,700 guest rooms and suites, a spa, and an 18-hole golf course. Le Reve will be the only hotel on the Las Vegas Strip with an on-property golf course. On Flamingo Road in Las Vegas, Westin opened its first hotel in Nevada in November. The 825-room WESTIN CASUARINA HOTEL & SPA, at the site of the former Maxim Hotel just off the Strip, has 15,000 square feet of meeting space, including five contiguous meeting rooms that can accommodate up to 470 people, one meeting room for up to 350, and two boardrooms. The 2,543-room RIO ALL-SUITE HOTEL & CASINO in Las Vegas will break ground soon for a $31 million expansion of its Pavilion Convention Center, which will add 60,000 square feet of convention space to the existing 100,000 square feet. A new convention and meeting facility broke ground in January in Reno, Nevada. The 118,000-square-foot RENO EVENTS CENTER is part of a $65 million, two-phase project to develop a special events and convention and meeting venue in the heart of downtown Reno. The facility will include a multipurpose space on the first floor for concerts, sporting events, and small conventions. The 55,000-square-foot space will include retractable seating. The second floor will have 4,954 square feet of space, including six meeting rooms and suites.
Last year, the 507-room PALA CASINO RESORT AND SPA opened a $105 million expansion in north San Diego County. Run by the 800-member Pala Band of Mission Indians, the resort is at the foot of the Palomar Mountains. The $215 million, 650,000-square-foot complex has 2,000 slot and video machines and 77 gaming tables. Pala also offers an unusual, separate, smoke-free gaming area. Isle of Capri Casinos Inc. opened a casino in December at THE WESTIN AND SHERATON AT OUR LUCAYA, on Grand Bahama Island. The 38,000-square-foot casino offers 400 slot machines and 21 game tables. There is a high-limit slot area and a high-limit room for table games, which has its own VIP lounge with food and beverage service. In Monaco, the HOTEL HERMITAGE has completed a major renovation and expansion. Sixty-three rooms and suites were added to the existing 229, and 40 rooms were completely renovated.
