* "Discover Bermuda" Launched
As part of its $800,000 "Discover Bermuda" marketing campaign launching in June, the Bermuda Department of Tourism is forming the Bermuda Explorers Club, open to meeting executives who have made a site visit to Bermuda or held a program there. Corporate and incentive planners who qualify will receive a quarterly newsletter updating them on the latest developments in hotels, attractions, and events. The newsletter will also include interviews with companies that have been to Bermuda.
The Underwater Exploration Institute, opening at Hamilton Harbour in July, will have a simulated dive expedition to the ocean floor, an indoor/outdoor restaurant, and meeting space for 250 attendees.
A golf course and meeting-size hotel are planned for the site of the old Naval Annex in Southampton.
The Sonesta Beach Resort Bermuda and Marriott Castle Harbour Resort have been completely refurbished.
The Elbow Beach Hotel is now managed by the Rafael Group.
* Asia Plays Host to SITE
For the first time, Asia will host the Society of Incentive & Travel Executives (SITE) annual international conference, drawing delegates from around the world. Some 450 attendees from Europe, North America, and Asia will converge at the Westin Stamford and Westin Plaza hotels in Singapore December 3 to 7, 1997 for the meeting, developed on the theme, "Motivating in the New Millennium." * Benchmark Joint Venture Announced
Benchmark Hospitality International has announced a joint venture with Pacific Assets PLC to promote the development and management of conference hotels, resorts, conference centers, and golf courses in Thailand. The new company will be called Benchmark-Pacific Hospitality.
* A PC in Every Room
The Pan Pacific Hotel Singapore, in conjunction with NEC Singapore, recently announced a project that will put a computer in every room at the Pan Pacific Hotel Singapore--and, eventually, in all Pan Pacific Hotels worldwide.
The computers will allow guests not only to do their own business in the comfort and privacy of their rooms but also will let them order breakfast, request a shoeshine, or confirm air reservations. In addition, a guest database will keep track of guests' special needs for future reference. The first 100 computers were to go on line by the end of April, with 600 more to be installed by July.
* Swiss Meetings, Made to Order
A ready-made Swiss meeting package is available for $1,499 per person, from November 2 to December 7, 1997 and January 4 through April 28, 1998. Included in the package is round-trip air on Swissair, four nights at the Palace Hotel in Lucerne, transfers, most meals, meeting space, coffee breaks, and sightseeing tours.
