The News: The MGM Mirage has scheduled a $110 million renovation of its 2,765 deluxe and tower deluxe rooms and suites.
Specs: Rooms will have down comforters, feather pillows, 42-inch LCD televisions, MP3 clock radios, and cordless phones. The Mirage offers 26 meeting rooms with a total of almost 42,000 square feet of space.
Time Frame: Project scheduled to begin first quarter 2008
Phoenix,
The News: The Sheraton Phoenix Downtown Hotel is scheduled to open October 2008.
Specs: One block from Phoenix Convention Center; 1,000 rooms; 6,500-square-foot fitness center; more than 80,000 square feet of flexible meeting space, including a 29,000-square-foot ballroom and a 15,000-square-foot ballroom; 16 meeting rooms; two boardrooms
Extra: Meeting facilities will have high-speed Internet, videoconferencing capabilities, on-site AV staff.
Toronto
The News: This addition to the Toronto Congress Centre opens this month, bringing trade show and convention space at the facility to more than 1 million square feet.
Specs: The new facility, just north of the original Congress Centre, has 500,000 square feet of exhibition space, including 40 meeting rooms and a 25,000-square-foot ballroom to be completed later this year.
Extra: The facility has been recognized for its environmentally friendly building materials and management practices.
The Woodlands, Texas
The News: A $50 million renovation will add 158 guest rooms, a lazy river, and a steakhouse. Ten lodges will be converted to residential use in 2009.
Specs: Upon completion, the facility will have 380 guest rooms, reduced from 440, and more than 60,000 square feet of conference space.
Time Frame: Construction expected to begin early this year, with completion in late 2009.
