Although many sessions at The Special Event show, held January 8 to 11 in Orlando, Fla., focused on the economy, the 1,100 attendees were also there to experience the hottest event trends. So the show, sponsored by Special Events magazine and& Incentives, went on in grand style.
Kicking things off was a HarleyFest at the Orlando Harley-Davidson factory. Guests donned special gloves to drink beer out of mugs made from solid ice, and some lined up for henna tattoos. The next day's Elements party at Gaylord Palms Resort was packed with theming, entertainment, and F&B ideas, as was an evening event at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom.
At the final night's Gala Awards presentation, Patti Coons, CSEP, of Patti Coons EventGroup, Orlando, was named “Top Event Professional.” Other winners included Extraordinary Events, Sherman Oaks, Calif., for Best Multiple-Day Event and Charles Banfield Productions, Los Angeles, for Best Event Marketing Campaign.
