The Society of Incentive Travel Executives has canceled its annual SITE University, which had been planned for June in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. The decision had been brewing since the fall, when the association's management firm, Smith, Bucklin & Associates, Chicago, began evaluating all SITE's services and meetings. The event was facing declining attendance, and was “not even close to breaking even,” said spokesman Joe Carbonara. Plans are to replace the University with three stand-alone “education days,” the locations and dates of which are still being determined.
SITE's International Conference will go on as planned, December 3 to 7 in Reykjavik, Iceland.
