* Royal Caribbean International has sealed its merger deal with Celebrity Cruises. The $1.3 billion transaction is the largest in cruise-line history. The new company has a combined fleet of 17 ships that sail itineraries in Alaska, the Bahamas, Bermuda, the Caribbean, Canada, Europe, the Far East, Hawaii, Mexico, New England, the Panama Canal, Russia, and Scandinavia. The two brands will be operated separately.
* Carnival Cruise Lines next year introduces the world's first smoke-free cruise ship--the MS Paradise--with a completely nonsmoking environment, including the open decks. Currently under construction in Helsinki, the new $300 million cruise ship will sail from the Port of Miami beginning in the fall of 1998.
* Windstar Cruises recently added vegetarian selections to its menus. Among the 20 new options: Moroccan sweet potato stew, Cajun pasta, and enchiladas with butternut squash and corn.
