“This is probably the most challenging time in the history of the aviation industry,” said Barbara Nalbone, national accounts manager for Delta Air Lines, a sponsor of the 2003 I&FS Forum. Nalbone addressed the group with a brief update of the airline industry. To return to profitability by 2005 or 2006, she said, Delta will be reducing costs by $1.5 billion to $2 billion. There's no way that's not gonna hurt. But on the upside, Delta has introduced its new low-cost carrier, Song; will have added about 144 additional daily flights by the end of 2003; and has initiated a meeting discount of 5 percent on select fares.
