When President Bush and the other Group of 8 leaders convened in Kananaskis, Alberta, in June, the Canadian resort village promoted itself in a most appealing way. Kananaskis served its distinguished guests customized apples from Kelowna Land and Orchard (www.k-l-o.com) in British Columbia, an outfit that uses an all-natural technique to imprint a logo onto the apple.
Another Kelowna client, Johnson & Johnson Vision Care Inc., Jacksonville, Fla., recently picked logoed apples as its trade show giveaway.
If you're considering this healthy promotional alternative, order early: In the spring, special bags are placed over individual apples while still on the tree. In the fall, the bags come off and a logo is applied. The apples mature and redden on the tree. The cost: $2 each, plus a $250 setup fee, with a minimum order of 1,000 apples.
