Richard Aaron, CMP, CSEP, president of New York City-based BiZBash Event Idea Center, was recently at the forefront of a mock meeting that was staged at the Garden City Hotel in Long Island, N.Y. His role: a meeting planner for a fictitious company called “The Axis Group” interested in holding a three-day program at the hotel next year.
Aaron spent the day negotiating with real-life sales managers, conference services managers, food and beverage managers, and audiovisual experts from the hotel. Attendees included corporate planners and business journalists. The goal of the event, officially called “A Day in the Life of a Meeting Planner,” was to uncover the intricate workings of meeting negotiations.
This entire exercise gave the Garden City Hotel, a Long Island gem, the opportunity to proudly showcase some of the things it can do for meeting groups — including an invigorating mid-morning yoga break and a dinner that incorporated wine tasting and food matching.
