George Aguel has been promoted to senior vice president/general manager of Disney Vacation Club and Resort/Park Sales and Services in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. He joined Disney in 1990, where his responsibilities encompassed the operation of Disney Event Productions and the Disney Institute. Aguel is currently serving as vice chairman for Meeting Professionals International.
Brian Dye has been named director of sales and marketing for the St. Regis Monarch Beach, scheduled to open in July in Dana Point, Calif. An 18-hole championship oceanfront course, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., is on site. For the past seven years, Dye had been director of sales and marketing with the Hilton Waikoloa Village on the Big Island, Hawaii. Also joining the St. Regis Monarch Beach are Mark Podolski, director of sales, who will specialize in the insurance market (previously, he was with the Ritz-Carlton, Rancho Mirage); and Stan Hershenow, director of incentive sales (most recently with La Quinta Resort & Club in Palm Springs, Calif.)
Sarah K. Forrester has been promoted to conference services manager, and Angela Kennedy to group sales manager at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort, in Destin, Fla. Forrester had been food and beverage supervisor, and Kennedy was assistant rental director.
Michael O'Connor has been named director of convention services for The Diplomat Resort Country Club & Spa, located between Fort Lauderdale and Miami in Hollywood, Fla. With more than 20 years in the hospitality industry, O'Connor was most recently director of conference management for the Wyndham Anatole Hotel in Dallas.
Sheila Srivastava has recently been appointed regional sales manager for The Abbey Resort & Fontana Spa, Interlaken Resort & Country Spa, The Inns of Geneva National, and Holiday Inn Willowbrook in Oak Brook, Ill. She has been with the Abbey Group in sales for four years, most recently as associate director of transient sales with Wyndham Chicago.
At the Opryland Hotel Texas, scheduled to open in August 2003, Amy Smith and Kristen Harris have been named national sales managers. Smith, who has worked for Opryland in Nashville since 1998, will focus on the Midwest market, while Harris will be responsible primarily for the Southeast region. Most recently, Harris was manager of business development for Pegasus Solutions Inc., where she also handled sales and marketing. The new hotel will feature two 18-hole golf courses.
Mary S. Verity has been appointed director of sales for the Steamboat Grand Resort Hotel & Conference Center, in Steamboat Springs, Colo. Verity had been director of national sales for the Englewood, Colo.-based Sceptre Hospitality Resources, a hotel technology company.
Carol Sullivan has been named director of sales at The Lodge at Torrey Pines, scheduled to open in April 2002 in La Jolla, Calif. Sullivan was previously director of sales for Bahia Resort Hotel, San Diego.
Roberta Sumner has been named senior account manager, responsible for leading the newly established West Coast office of The TCI Companies, a meeting and event management firm based in Washington, D.C. The West Coast office will be based in San Diego.
Richard A. Brooks has been appointed incentive sales director for the Walt Disney World Resort. His sales team will be responsible for all Disney incentive offerings in Florida, including resorts, theme parks, recreation, and Disney Cruise Line. Brooks had been director of sales and marketing for The Westin Santa Clara in California.
Steven R. Sampson has been appointed director of sales and marketing at The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua on the Island of Maui in Hawaii. Prior to his move to Maui, Sampson was director of sales and marketing for Carefree Resorts at The Boulders in Carefree, Ariz. The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua is part of the master-planned Kapalua resort on Maui, home of the Mercedes Championships, the season-opening PGA Tour event.
