Dromoland Castle recently opened its luxurious new Club Wing with 24 guest rooms and the stately Club Lounge. The addition caps a five-year refurbishment of the historic property. Located in Newmarket-on-Fergus, near Ireland's Shannon Airport, the property offers a total of 100 rooms and the 12,000-square-foot Brian Boru International Centre, whose Great Hall accommodates receptions of up to 700 guests. Also on property is a full-service spa and health club, business center, and 18-hole golf course.
The Portman Ritz-Carlton in Shanghai, China, recently completed a $30 million renovation, including public spaces and all 564 guest rooms and suites. The hotel is the focal point of Shanghai Centre, a retail, dining, and entertainment complex on Nanjing Road in the heart of the city.
The Pacific Promenade at The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel, in Dana Point, Calif., offers 5,400 square feet of new meeting space. The venue features a full kitchen facility and foyer/reception area. A total of 21,700 square feet is available at the 393-room hotel.
The Westin Resort & Spa Whistler, the largest all-suite convention hotel to be built in Whistler, B.C., welcomed its first guests in April. The 419-suite property offers more than 17,000 square feet of meeting space; the 8,000-square-foot Avello Spa & Health Club; and ski-in/ski-out access to both Whistler and Blackcomb Mountain gondolas.
International Conference Resorts of Colorado Springs, Colo., announced that Tiburon Capital of San Francisco has acquired the 254-room Ocean Place Conference Resort in Long Branch, N.J., from Olympus Real Estate Corp. of Dallas. A Tiburon affiliate also owns another ICR-managed property, the 270-room Carefree Conference Resort in Carefree, Ariz. With Tiburon as its strategic partner, ICR plans to expand its network of conference resorts. ICR also manages the Scottsdale (Ariz.) Conference Resort, Chey-enne Mountain Conference Resort in Colorado Springs, and the Graylyn International Conference Resort in Winston-Salem, N.C.
The Great Eastern Hotel was opened by Wyndham Hotels in London's financial district. The 267-room hotel offers 12 private event rooms and a high-tech infrastructure including Internet access via ISDN lines.
The Mirage in Las Vegas has announced it will double its meeting space by next spring. A new 17-room meeting complex opening in June will include the 10,000-square-foot Montego Ballroom and a boardroom with built-in teleconferencing and videoconferencing facilities. The new 160,000-square-foot Events Center opens in April 2001 and will include a 60,000-square-foot ballroom along with the existing 40,000-square-foot Grand Ballroom.
The Presidente Inter-Continental All-Inclusive Los Cabos, at the tip of Mexico's Baja peninsula, has added the 4,643-square-foot Los Cabos Conference Center. The resort also will add 150 rooms by this summer for a total of 390 rooms.
In Cannes, France, the Palais des Festivals has announced the addition of "Espace Riviera" to its collection of world-class meeting spaces. With this addition the Palais des Festivals has approximately 270,000 square feet of meeting space, and the possibility of 215,000 square feet in one continuous block. Combining exhibition space with up to 26 conference rooms allows for functions ranging from 35 to 2,300 people.
The Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at The First Residence has opened with 273 rooms in Cairo, Egypt. Located in the heart of Giza, the hotel offers views of the city, the Nile, and the Pyramids from its rooms. Meeting space holds up to 300 guests and includes two boardrooms. A full-service business center and Spa and Wellness Center are available as well.
