A New Hampshire grande dame, the Mountain View Grand, located in Whitefield, will reopen its doors after a $20 million renovation that restores the 1865 Colonial Revival's beauty, while bringing its functionality and amenities into the 21st century. Slated for May 2002 completion, the 146-room property will reopen with 20,000 square feet of meeting space, including a 6,500-square-foot conference center for up to 350 attendees. There will be a 5,500-square-foot ballroom (seating 350 people, banquet-style), a business center, and plenty of options for breakout locations. All guest rooms will have telephones with data ports and dedicated Internet capability. After a $35 million renovation, the 396-room Wyndham Newark Airport in Elizabeth, N.J., opened in December. The hotel offers 16,000 square feet of meeting space, including a 7,200-square-foot grand ballroom. www.wyndham.com
The Doubletree Park Terrace, in Washington, D.C., recently closed its doors for a $12 million renovation. The 219-room property is scheduled to reopen as the Washington Terrace Hotel in April, and operate as a boutique property. All common areas, guest rooms and suites, as well as meeting facilities, will be redesigned.
Regent International Hotels recently opened the 54-room Regent Schlosshotel Berlin (formerly the Ritz-Carlton), in Berlin, Germany. The hotel is Regent International's first European property. Built as a private mansion in 1914, the property is in a secluded woodland that's five minutes from the city center. This fall, the Centro de Congressos do Estoril, a state-of-the-art conference and exhibition center, opened in the Portuguese seaside city of Estoril, just west of Lisbon.
