1. If you could be anywhere in the world, where would you be?
With my family at either one of our favorite escape destinations; Antigua in the West Indies or on the shore of Long Lake in Harrison, Maine. We love being on the water—lakes, oceans, streams—and any activity that keeps us on the water.
2. What’s playing on your iPod?
Music is the poetry of my life. I love it all and have such a variety on my iPod from Nina Simone to Van Morrison to Journey to The Fray.
3. It’s time for a second career. What do you choose?
A journalist focused on human-interest stories. I’m fascinated with the lives and narratives of people and the human spirit. I am also a news junkie. I watch and read everything I can get my hands on.
4. What is your hidden talent?
My 12-year-old daughter says it’s checking my e-mail! My friends tell me I should have been an interior designer. I do love creating magic from an empty palette and bringing a room to life through color and unique pieces.
5. What is your favorite cause or charity?
The PMC (Pan Mass Challenge), in Massachusetts, which is the largest two-day fundraiser in the country. More than 5,000 cyclists are sponsored on an annual summer ride from Sturbridge to Provincetown. Since 1980 riders have raised more than $270 million for cancer research and treatment. My husband has participated for seven years as a rider and I have joined the hundreds of volunteers who make this incredible event happen.
6. What’s your top travel tip?
Fresh air! I always try to stay in hotels that have balconies or open window options. We spend so much of our time on the road in meeting rooms, ballrooms, and windowless locations. It’s great to come back to your room at the end of a long day and be able to sit on your balcony and enjoy the local environment.
7. What is your favorite quote or saying?
“Make no little plans; they have no magic to stir one’s blood.”—Daniel Burnham, U.S. architect and city planner
8. Who inspires you?
The underdog. I’m inspired by the amazing strength, dedication, and spirit of individuals who overcome overwhelming odds.
