The swanky, 389-room El San Juan Hotel & Casino, gleaming from a $30 million refurbishment completed in January, is tucked into a private, 15-acre enclave in San Juan, just five minutes from the airport. By day, guests are drawn outside to enjoy the long stretch of white-sand beach, swimming pools, whirlpools, and tennis courts. By night, the scene moves indoors as the lobby and adjacent casino and night spots come alive. The hotel's seven restaurants, nine lounges, two nightclubs, and casino buzz with energy.
All guests enjoy attentive service and excellent security-the beach entrance is guarded round-the-clock. The 31,000 square feet of refurbished meeting space includes a garden-level conference center with 11 meeting rooms that accommodate up to 170 persons theater-style, and an 11,040-square-foot ballroom for up to 1,400. The new Tropicoro room, off the main lobby, is a converted nightclub serving as a meeting room for up to 400.
The refurbished guest rooms include spacious rooms and suites in a ten-floor tower and garden-level casitas and lanai suites. All guest rooms are outfitted with robes, an iron and ironing board, a VCR, a stereo with CD player and tape deck, hair dryers, and a host of other amenities. New to the hotel are the open-air Margarita Bar located off the rooftop health club, a new Japanese restaurant, a French bistro in the lobby, and the Caribbean's first Cigar Bar. Here, up to 45 persons can relax in a club-like bar and lounge sipping cognac and smoking handmade cigars.
The El San Juan is a sister property of the 580-room Condado Plaza Hotel & Casino and the 918-room El Conquistador Resort & Country Club. All of the hotels' facilities, including the 18-hole championship Arthur Hills course at El Conquistador, are available to El San Juan guests, and special functions at sister hotels can be arranged.
