The Canadian Tourism Commission has appointed Susan Frei as its new manager, insurance meeting and incentive sales, based in Washington, D.C. Frei has been working on behalf of Canada for 18 years, first for Canadian Pacific Hotels and most recently for the Province of Alberta.
Michael Karr has been named national sales director for the Minneapolis-based World Marketing Group. Karr, who had been the Chicago-based director of sales for Hyatt International, will focus on the insurance market for WMG, whose portfolio includes the Pacific World network of DMCs in Asia and the Global Events Partners group of DMCs in the U.S. and Europe.
Jeanette McIlroy has been promoted to director of national accounts for the incentive/intermediary market at Marriott's Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa in Rancho Mirage, Calif. She also recently added the insurance market to her responsibilities.
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide has promoted Robert F. Cotter to chief operating officer from president of international operations, Europe.
Wyndham Hotels & Resorts has named Fred Kleisner CEO, succeeding James Carreker, who remains chairman. David Johnson, who had been president of the Wyndham hotel division, was named executive vice president, sales and marketing, a new position. Also at Wyndham, Timothy Rector was named regional vice president of sales for the offshore resorts division, overseeing nine resort properties in the Caribbean and Mexico. Rector, who is based in Miami, had been director of sales for Starwood Hotels & Resorts in Chicago.
Tom Ernsting was named director of marketing for the Renaissance Chicago. He had been Marriott's director of intermediary marketing, based in the Chicago national sales office.
Darren Green is the new director of sales and marketing for the Orchid at Mauna Lani on the Big Island of Hawaii. He had been director of sales at Ihilani Resort, Oahu.
The new Tampa Marriott Waterside in Tampa, Fla., has named Deidre McCurley director of sales. She had been director of national accounts at the New Orleans Marriott.
Ronald C. Black was named group incentive sales manager for La Samanna on St. Martin in the Caribbean. He will be based at the Orient-Express offices in New York. He had been with Marriott Beach Resorts.
Michael McMahon has been named director of marketing for Naples Grande Golf Club in Naples, Fla. He had been on the sales team at the Westin Savannah Harbor Resort and The Club at Savannah Harbor, a golf club in Savannah, Ga.
Walt Disney World Resort has named Todd A. Bertka regional sales director in Chicago, overseeing Midwest group sales for the resort's meeting hotels, Walt Disney Attractions, Park and Event Sales, Disney Institute, Disney Event Productions, and Disney Cruise Line. He had been senior sales manager with the Indianapolis CVA.
Radisson Cable Beach Resort, Nassau, Bahamas, promoted Deyvon Jones to director of sales. Jones had been in the resort's food and beverage and sales divisions since 1997.
Ronie Stefaniak was promoted to account manager in Marriott's National Accounts office in Rosemont, Ill. She is responsible for handling small meetings (75 rooms or fewer), primarily for insurance accounts.
