Metropolitan Hotel Toronto and Metropolitan Vancouver are offering "workbooks designed in conjunction with meeting planners," instead of glossy brochures, to planners interested in learning about the luxury properties.

Each hotel publishes a 30-page booklet that includes detailed room diagrams, work sheet, maps, weather information, and a checklist.

Additionally, the workbooks refer to the Metropolitan's Web site, where planners can access banquet event orders and other forms. For more information, contact the hotel's sales and catering office at (604) 687-1122.*

Canadian Pacific Hotels in June entered into an agreement to purchase Princess Hotels, which operates seven luxury resort properties in the U.S., Bermuda, Mexico, and Barbados.

David O'Brien, president of Canadian Pacific, said the acquisition would make the hotel company a "major player in North America, with 18 destination resort hotels with more than 8,000 rooms, and will serve as a platform for further growth."

Earlier in the year, Canadian Pacific purchased two Sheraton hotels in Toronto, acquired Delta Hotels, and announced additional development of its existing properties. The Calgary-based Canadian Pacific is Canada's largest operator of full-service hotels, with more than 21,000 guest rooms in Canada.

Princess Hotels also operates a casino and hotel in the Bahamas, but these assets were not included in the acquisition.
