The Sofitel Washington D.C., with 237 guest rooms and suites, is slated to open in June in the heart of Washington's business district. The hotel, a restored 1920s office building, is within a five-minute walk of the White House. The 700-room Westin Charlotte, in Charlotte, N.C., is on schedule to open this fall. The hotel is sited directly across from the Charlotte Convention Center, and it will be the center's official hotel. The Westin will have more than 44,000 square feet of convention facilities, including 32,135 square feet of meeting space. A $15 million expansion and renovation of Dolce Skamania Lodge, Stevenson, Wash., should be complete by this summer. The property will have 254 guest rooms and 35,000 square feet of meeting and function space. The new 15,000 square feet of conference space includes meeting rooms, breakout rooms, and boardrooms, as well as wireless, high-speed Internet access. The lodge is 45 minutes east of Portland International Airport and offers an 18-hole championship golf course, a fitness center, indoor pool, outdoor spa, tennis courts, and hiking trails. www.dolce.com
In March a $27 million property-wide restoration and renovation of the Renaissance Ilikai Waikiki Hotel, Honolulu, Hawaii, was completed. The remodeling included a restoration of the classical staircases, an expanded lobby, and a complete refurbishment of all 783 guest rooms and meeting space, the latter of which includes 23 meeting rooms that total more than 25,000 square feet of function space. New function area additions include a 4,420-square-foot roof deck above the largest ballroom (15,340 square feet) and an indoor entertainment suite intended for meetings. www.renaissancehotels.com
The 290-room Hilton Stockholm Slussen, Hilton's first hotel in Sweden, opened in February. The almost 3,000 square feet of meeting space includes 17 meeting rooms, the largest of which can seat 287 people; an auditorium; and satellite conference facilities.
