A new report by the Union of International Associations shows significant growth in the number of international meetings included, from 392,558 in 2012 over 376,581 in 2011. Of that number, 332,293 actually took place in 2012, 10,498 are taking place in 2013, and 6,298 are on the books for future dates.
The number of cities in which these associations met also grew from 1,309 in 2011 to 1,374 in 2012, with the top international meeting cities being:
Singapore held the top spot in 2011 as well. Seoul, Copenhagen, and London replaced Budapest (5), Geneva (8), and Berlin (10) from last year’s Top 10 list.
The meetings in the UIA database are those including 50 or more participants and organized and/or sponsored by the international organizations that appear in the Yearbook of International Organizations and the International Congress Calendar (corporate and incentive meetings are not included). The UIA has provided its members with statistics on international meetings for the past 64 years.
