Jean A. O'Donnell, director of convention and meeting services for the American College of Physicians (ACP), has been elected secretary/treasurer of the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA). She won the post in PCMA's first contested election.
O'Donnell oversees more than 250 meetings and events a year for the ACP.
Sue Levey has joined the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) as meetings director. She was previously a senior meeting planner at the American Management
Association.
Judy Benaroche, CMP, has been promoted to director of meetings and marketing for E. Harden Associates, Inc., in Dallas, which specializes in pharmaceutical programs. Previously, she was a meeting manager.
Beverly L. Malone, PhD, RN, FAAN, president of the American Nurses Association, has been appointed to President Clinton's Advisory Commission on Consumer Protection and Quality in the Health Care Industry. The goal for the commission is to protect consumers from changes in the healthcare system that may jeopardize the quality of their care, and to investigate ways to guarantee high-quality care.
Convention Centers & Bureaus Richard Luber has been named executiv director for the Austin (TX) Convention and Visitors Bureau. He had served as CEO and president of the Greater Rochester (NY) Visitors Association.
Douglas G. Small has been promoted to vice president of sales at the Palm Springs (CA) Desert Resorts Convention and Visitors Bureau. He had been director of sales.
Janet Rodgers has joined the DeKalb Convention & Visitors Bureau, Decatur, GA, as director of sales. She comes from the Four Points Hotel Atlanta Perimeter and Holiday Inn at Lenox, also in Atlanta, where she was director of sales and
marketing.
The Portland Oregon Visitors Association has announced a restructuring. Carol Lentz is the new executive vice president of operations. She will supervise the Operations and Services Team, which now encompasses the former convention services department. She had been director of finance and administration.
Ruthie Berg has been appointed director of sales at the Tacoma-Pierce County (WA) Visitors and Convention Bureau. She had been director of sales for the Ramada Inn at Northgate in Seattle.
Hotels & Resorts Thomas R. Oliver has been appointed chief executive officer of Holiday Inn Worldwide in Atlanta. He had been chairman, president, and chief executive officer of Audiofax, Inc., also in Atlanta.
Conference Hotels of Vermont has promoted Shelia R. Cleary to vice president, sales and marketing, for the Sheraton Burlington Hotel and Conference Center, and the Ramada Inn and Conference Center. She had been director of sales and marketing for Conference Hotels of
Vermont.
The Sonesta Key Biscayne (FL) has named Deborah A. Castillo director of marketing. Most recently, she had been director of sales and marketing for the Doral Beach Resort in Miami Beach.
Joe Stern has been promoted to director of sales and marketing for the Hyatt Regency Reston (VA). He had been director of sales for the Hyatt Fair Lakes and Hyatt Dulles.
Jeffrey H. French has joined the Four Seasons Resort Nevis as director of marketing. He comes from Marriott's Frenchman's Reef and Morning Star Beach Resorts, St. Thomas, where he was senior vice president of sales and marketing.
John A. Cardona has been named director of sales and marketing for The Ritz-Carlton, San Juan (Puerto Rico) Hotel & Casino, scheduled to open late this year. Most recently, he was director of sales and marketing for the Windsor Court Hotel in New Orleans.

Linda Rubin has joined the Grand Hyatt Washington (DC) as meeting connection manager, responsible for short-term meetings. She had been systems administrator/sales assistant at the Hyatt Fair Lakes in Virginia.
The Westin Resort Miami Beach, formerly Doral Beach The Ocean Resort, has named Karen Hendriksen-Smith director of group sales, responsible for associations. Most recently, she was director of group sales at the For Lauderdale (FL) Marriott North.
