*The newly expanded Kentucky International Convention Center (formerly the Commonwealth Convention Center) reopened earlier this year in Louisville. New space, including the 30,000-square-foot Cascade Ballroom, has brought the center's total space to nearly 300,000 square feet.

*The Greater Fort Lauderdale/Brow-

ard County Convention Center has broken ground on a 230,000-square-foot expansion and a 500-room headquarters hotel. When the $30 million expansion opens in September 2001, it will bring the center's total available space to 600,000 square feet. The hotel, to open in December 2001, will be connected to the center by skywalk and will feature 28,000 square feet of meeting space.

*Wyndham Grand Bay-Coconut Grove, in Miami, Fla., is undergoing an $8 million renovation. Changes include 4,000 square feet of rooftop meeting space added to the original 9,000 and upgrades to the public areas, gardens, and each of the 177 guest rooms and suites.

*Kalahari Resort Convention Center in Wisconsin Dells, Wis., has begun Phase II construction on a 28,000-square-foot convention center. Groundbreaking for the $3.5 million project took place in early April. Phase I of the project opened in May and includes 272 rooms, a 105,000-square-foot indoor/outdoor water park, and 12,000 square feet of meeting space.

*The new Pacific Promenade at the Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel, in Dana Point, Calif., offers 5,400 square feet of new meeting space. It features a full kitchen facility and foyer/reception area. The 393-room hotel has 21,700 square feet of meeting space.

*The Hilton Charlotte University Place in Charlotte, N.C., has completed its year-long expansion project with the opening of the new 150-room tower. The property now offers 393 guest rooms and 20,000 square feet of meeting space.

*The Hilton Naples (Fla.) & Towers has opened with 191 guest rooms. Its 8,350 square feet of meeting space includes 10 meeting rooms, an executive boardroom, and a 4,740-square-foot ballroom.

*In Las Vegas, the $1.3 billion Aladdin Resort & Casino opens in August. The 34-acre site includes a new 2,600-room hotel, a 100,000-square-foot casino, the remodeled 7,000-seat Theatre for the Performing Arts, and the 500,000-square-foot Desert Passage, a shopping, entertainment, and dining complex.

*The Hilton San Diego Airport/Harbor Island has opened in Southern California. The 207-room hotel offers some 9,000 square feet of flexible meeting space and a complimentary airport shuttle service.

BEYOND BORDERS Fregate, Dolce International's conference and golf resort in Provence, France, has completed a $7 million renovation and expansion project. The 133-room property offers 14 meeting rooms accommodating up to 200 people. Included in the project was the construction of the 2,500-square-foot Fregate Room, which holds up to 200 people for a banquet.
