When the St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers earned their way into the 2011 World Series, the St. Louis Convention and Visitors Commission President and CEO Kitty Ratcliffe and Jay Burress, president and CEO of the Arlington (Texas) Convention and Visitors Bureau, agreed to a friendly wager. It’s time to pay up. The Cardinals won the series in seven exciting games and, as a result, Burress made good on the wager by holding up an "I Love the Cardinals" sign and posting it on the Visit Arlington, Texas, Facebook page. In the photo, Burress is holding the sign surrounded by his Arlington CVB Team.
The Cardinals victory means that Ratcliffe also won her wager with Bruce MacMillan, president and CEO of Dallas-based Meeting Professionals International. She will have to wait until next summer for MacMillan to pay up: When MPI brings its World Education Conference to St. Louis July 28–31, MacMillan will be photographed wearing a Cardinals jersey and hugging the statue of Cardinals legend Stan Musial outside of Busch Stadium. The photo will then be displayed at the WEC's opening general session.
