After considering more than 150 candidates for the top spot at the Denver Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau, the board of directors decided the best person for the job was one of their own: Richard W. Scharf Jr.
Scharf had served as acting president since November 2003, and prior to that, as executive vice president for sales and marketing. He was instrumental in bringing 3,000 association planners to Denver in 2002 for the American Society of Association Executives annual convention, and also in attracting Meeting Professionals International to Denver for its upcoming World Education Congress in July 2004.
As president and CEO of the Denver Metro CVB, Scharf is expected to continue his successful track record. "The search committee and board are impressed by both his industry knowledge and his passion for Denver," said Bureau Board Chairman Scott Bemis in a press statement.
