At approximately 12:30 p.m. Indonesia time today, there was an explosion at the JW Marriott hotel in Jakarta. According to information from Marriott, local authorities say 10 people were killed, including a security guard. Three guests and eight hotel employees were among the 147 people taken to local hospitals as a result of the explosion, which occurred near the hotel's entrance. The hotel immediately was evacuated; the remaining 267 guests were relocated to a neighboring hotel. All 642 of the hotel’s employees are accounted for, and an employee assistance center has been set up on site.
According to a statement from Marriott, "Security is always a priority at our hotels around the world. We regularly assess and adjust our security measures on a regional and local basis and at this time we are reviewing the need for any additional precautions."
