Carlson Wagonlit Travel Meetings & Events, Minnetonka, Minn., recently announced to employees that it plans to put 30 of them through the Global Business Travel Association’s Strategic Meetings Management Certification course in 2011.
This is the first time GBTA (formerly the National Business Travel Association) has made this arrangement with a single company. The idea was proposed to GBTA and CWT management by Kari Kesler, senior director, SMM Program Management + Solutions at CWT, who was also one of the driving forces behind the creation of the SMMC in 2010 by GBTA.
The CWT group will not join the other students at the next SMMC course, to be held March 7 to 11 at Emory University in Atlanta, but will have its own private course in Minneapolis (near the company headquarters), during which it will put the group through the entire certification.
The course will be open to CWT’s strategic program managers, sales staff, and SMM operations staff, as well as other employees who are interested in moving into the Meetings & Events division.
