Toronto-based Fairmont Hotel and Resorts, which operates 38 properties in six countries, 21 of which are in Canada, has made several chainwide technology improvements. Starting July 1, all Fairmont properties, including some of Canada’s best-known resorts (Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac, The Fairmont Banff Springs, The Fairmont Chateau Whistler, The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise…) began offering wireless Internet access in all hotel public spaces.

This complements an initiative announced last November to upgrade every meeting space and guest room with high-speed connectivity. The daily rate for Internet access is $9.95 in the local currency, but as of April, guests in the gold and platinum tiers of the company’s frequent guest program have been offered the service for free.

Also in July, Fairmont announced the launch of a toll-free 24/7 technical support hotline for guests. The new Fairmont Virtual Assistant is manned by the company’s IT department. However, calls that can’t be resolved on the phone are referred to on-site systems managers.
