"What happened was that MPI's provider of the insurance, Marsh Affinity Group, changed its supplier of the insurance," explained MPI spokesperson Kelly Shultz. "This change requires MPI members to reapply for the insurance through Marsh, or obtain alternative quotes. Policy holders are being notified of this change by mail when their policy is about to expire."

Many independents rely on MPI for this insurance.

"It’s hard to get answers from insurers since I am such a small fish," said Michelle Santee Tupps of Event Resource, Inc, Safety Harbor, Fla.

"That's why the MPI coverage is so valuable to me." As of press time, she was still awaiting a response from Marsh. Shulz’s response was reassuring: "MPI has not discontinued the insurance it offers to independent planners," she reiterated. "Members who hold this insurance will still be covered."
