Paige Shadrick has joined the Tulsa Convention Center as assistant marketing manager and will work the state and regional markets. She previously was the sales manager at the Holiday Inn South in Broken Arrow. Kathy Tinker has been named marketing manager for the Center. She has nine years in convention sales with the Tulsa Convention Center and Convention & Visitors Bureau and works the religious and national markets.
Concurrent with the Reno-Sparks Convention Center expansion project, Jeff Beckelman has been hired as the president and CEO of the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority in Nevada. He had been vice president of sales and marketing for the Sands Expo & Convention Center in Las Vegas.
Maria Rivera has been appointed as national sales manager for Washington and the northeastern region at the Long Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau in Long Beach, Calif. Prior to joining the bureau, Rivera represented the Hawaii Visitor and Convention Bureau as regional director of accounts in Washington.
Peter Garapic has been named corporate sales manager at Opryland Hotel and Attractions, Nashville, Tenn. Garapic most recently was director of sales at the Adam's Mark Hotel in Columbia, S.C.
Jennifer Landers is the new assistant director of sales at Pointe Hilton Resorts in Phoenix. She will market the Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort and the Point Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort. Landers was formerly a director of sales for Merv Griffin Hotel company.
Cheryl Ferree has been hired as account director for the Southeast and West Coast markets at Doral Golf Resort & Spa in Miami. Ferree previously served as the resort's senior conference services manager.
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. has appointed David Marr to the position of regional vice president of sales and marketing, New York City. Marr joins Starwood from Marriott International, where he was market director of business strategy for the company's New York City hotels and director of marketing and sales for the Marriott Marquis.
At Starwood Hotels & Resorts Hawaii, Lisa DeCambra Morrill has been appointed director of travel industry sales. She most recently was director of sales and marketing for Molokai Ranch and Lodge on the Island of Molokai.
Beth Calveard has been named marketing manager for the Opryland Hospitality Group, Nashville. Calveard was previously director of sales and marketing at the Doubletree Guest Suites in Nashville.
Michelle Frisbee recently joined the Tri-Cities Visitor & Convention Bureau (Wash.) as its director of sales. Kathy Blasdel, also of the Tri-Cities CVB, has been promoted to vice president of tourism development for the bureau. The Tri-Cities CVB serves the cities of Kennewick, Pasco, and Richland in Washington state.
The new $68 million Wildwoods Convention Center, The Wildwoods, N.J., which is under construction, will include a 75,00-square-foot exhibit hall, 11,1000 square feet of ballroom space, 4,800 square feet of meeting rooms, 7,150 square feet of retail space, and outdoor amenities including a 36,000-square-foot boardwalk and deck. The center's fabric roof system will allow for natural lighting on the exhibit hall floor.
The Reno-Sparks Convention Center has begun a $105 million expansion and renovation that will increase rentable space from 320,000 to 500,000 square feet, which includes increasing meeting space to 79,000 square feet and expanding registration areas and food service outlets. Caribe Royale Resort Suites and Villas, Orlando, Fla., is building a new convention center, featuring a 40,000-square-foot ballroom, 20 breakout rooms, two registration desks, and two meeting planner offices. The project, scheduled for completion in early 2003, will bring total meeting space to 150,000 square feet. The resort now offers 1,218 one-bedroom suites and 120 two-bedroom, two-bath villas.
