In Kissimmee, Fla., Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center is putting the finishing touches on a $50 million renovation. The new 10,000-square-foot Coquina Lawn features lush conversation pods—including three fire pits for small groups—and dramatic lighting, and it accommodates up to 1,000 people for a private reception. The area can be tented in inclement weather. Meeting and exhibit space at the resort tops 400,000 square feet in total.

Two new offices, perfect for meeting planners, are located close to the ballrooms. They provide conference seating for up to 18 people and come equipped with plasma television with cable and capability to connect to a computer. According to Johann Krieger, Gaylord Palms’ senior vice president and general manager, the new meeting space was designed based on the input of meeting planners. “Our meeting planners spoke and we listened. The changes and additions are based on the recommendations from our clients who know that we share best practices and that we understand the importance of ROI. A creative partnering approach not only works to meet the objectives of a meeting, it also works with the planning team to maximize the effective use of space,” said Krieger.

In addition to the meeting space renovation and expansion, all 1,406 guest rooms and suites at Gaylord have been renovated and include updated amenities such as flat-screen TVs and ergonomic desk chairs. Wi-Fi is available in all rooms.
