1. Send me a bunch of separate e-mails with important information instead of creating a complete speaker packet, deadlines included.

2. Ignore the pre-meeting information I send, including my equipment and room layout needs, forcing me to reset the room when I arrive.

3. Print a program description without building in time for me to proofread it.

4. Ask for a speaker introduction—then lose the copy. Or add your own thoughts to my introduction without telling me. One of my signature stories has a surprise ending and a planner who heard me before shared the ending before I started! Many have added how “hysterically funny” I am, raising expectations for a stand-up comedy routine, which is not what I deliver.

5. Provide too little information about the event. Speakers need to know, for example, if participants will be eating during the presentation or if the session is to take place outside.

6. Ask me to hold a date, and then never call back to release the date.
