Managing My Time
The key word in the title of this message is “my.” As we face the challenge of a new day, a new project, or a new challenge, we often ask, “How much time will it require?” Like each of you, I don't think I have ever lived as “busy” as I live today. Each day seems to present more pressing demands on “my” time.
Although each of us is allotted the same 24 hours each day, personal responsibilities demand a great deal of that time. Therefore, it becomes even more challenging to squeeze in the unexpected in our daily routine. Time management involves prioritizing our duties and everyday jobs as well as placing a value on each task that demands our attention. We must make daily decisions and right choices. What is most important and what will really matter at the end of the day?
As meeting planners, we are often presented with opportunities that are more pleasurable than the demanding tasks that are associated with firm deadlines. While maintaining enjoyable and wholesome relationships is very important, it is necessary to balance the pursuit of these activities with the time restraints that are a huge part of planning and arranging a productive meeting. Living life becomes a balancing act, and keeping the proper balance is crucial.
May the rest of 2006 be a blessed year for you, your co-workers, and your loved ones. May we all learn to properly manage our time between work and our most valued possession — our family.
P.S. Thanks to those of you who expressed that the RCMA gathering in San Jose was one of the most helpful and best that you had ever attended. You helped us to make it one of the greatest by your attendance and participation.
