Two new hotels open at L.A. LIVE.
The Ritz-Carlton, Los Angeles and the JW Marriott Hotel, Los Angeles opened in February at L.A. LIVE, the $2.5 billion, 4-million-square-foot sports and entertainment complex that aims to revitalize downtown Los Angeles. The hotels share space in a 54-story tower.
Serving as the long-awaited headquarters hotel for the Los Angeles Convention Center, the JW Marriott features 878 guest rooms, a rooftop pool, lobby lounge, restaurant, and fitness center. Located on the upper floors of the tower, the Ritz-Carlton offers 123 guest rooms, a lobby lounge, restaurant, private dining room and “wine cave,” fitness center, and outdoor pool. Both hotels will share more than 77,000 square feet of meeting space, including a 25,000-square-foot ballroom. Guests of the JW Marriott will have access to the Ritz-Carlton's 8,000-square-foot spa.
Venue Updates: New/Expanded Hotels
Loews Miami Beach Hotel
News: The beachfront hotel recently completed a $50 million renovation.
Specs: 790 rooms, 65,000 square feet of meeting space, six restaurants, spa, fitness center, and kids' camp.
Westward Look Resort
The News: The hotel completed a $14 million renovation in December of all guest rooms and public spaces.
Specs: 244 guest rooms, 16 meeting rooms, and more than 20,000 square feet of meeting space for up to 450 attendees. The hotel also offers a tennis center, spa, rooftop terrace, fitness center, three pools, and two restaurants.
News: Guest rooms were renovated in December, converting the property into a smaller, more intimate resort. Additional renovations are planned for the main building and public spaces.
Specs: The resort features 98 rooms, 4,500 square feet of meeting space, a spa, fitness center, kids' club, and five dining facilities.
The Maxwell Hotel
The News: The independent, family-owned hotel will open in March adjacent to the Seattle Center.
Specs: The hotel will offer 140 guest rooms, an indoor pool, an exercise facility, an espresso bar, 1,600 square feet of meeting space, and 3,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space.
The Sheraton Fort Lauderdale Beach Hotel
Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
The News: Formerly The Sheraton Yankee Clipper, the hotel reopened in January after a multimillion-dollar renovation.
Specs: The hotel features 486 guest rooms, 7,000 square feet of indoor meeting space, 3,600 square feet of outdoor event space, four dining options, two pools, and a fitness center.
Sunny Isles Beach, Fla.
The News: Formerly Le Méridien, the hotel was rebranded in November and is now managed by Benchmark Hospitality International.
Specs: The beachfront resort offers 48 guest rooms and 142 suites, a restaurant, spa, fitness center, business center, and pool. A 925-square-foot meeting room and boardroom for up to 16 guests is available.
Brad Duncan has joined the Chateau on the Lake Resort, Spa, and Convention Center in Branson, Mo., as sales manager. In his new position, Duncan coordinates meetings, conventions, and leisure stays at the resort.
Elite Meetings International, Santa Barbara, Calif., has appointed Carol M. Lynch director of planner communications. Lynch was formerly vice president ofsales at Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc.
