Properties to Watch in 2007

Here's a roundup of some hotels that should be on your radar screen.

A short drive from Los Angeles, the 270-room Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village, Calif., offers a television studio and the California WellBeing Institute, a state-of-the-art diagnostic health and wellness facility. The 133-room Four Seasons Hotel Hampshire, England, is an 11th-century country estate with a manor house dating from 1728. The hotel is 35 minutes from Heathrow and rests on 500 acres of parkland.

Also new in the U.K. is The Ritz-Carlton, Powerscourt, County Wicklow, opening this year 30 minutes from Dublin. The elegant 201-room resort features a 36-hole championship golf course and a 30,000-square-foot spa. The Ritz-Carlton, Palm Beach reopened last month after a $45 million renovation that added a 28,000-square-foot Grand Spa, a new pool, and three new restaurants. Also reopening recently is The Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas, which underwent a $40 million renovation project.

Rosewood Hotels & Resorts has taken over management of Corde-Valle, a Rosewood Resort, 45 minutes north of Monterey. The country-club-like resort features a Robert Trent Jones, Jr.-designed golf course and 45 guest rooms in 28 bungalows, five villas, and three fairway homes.

At Orient-Express, Casa de Sierra Nevada in San Miguel, Mexico, last year became the 50th property in the luxury brand's worldwide portfolio. The resort has nine Spanish Colonial buildings dating from the 16th to 18th centuries, each with two to six uniquely appointed rooms. Orient-Express is spending $5 million to add 20 suites, a full-service spa, and a pool.

At Hyatt, the hot new domestic property is the 491-room Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort & Spa in Austin, Texas. Offshore, the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa (formerly the Hyatt Regency Kauai) underwent a major renovation and name change.

Hilton marked the first quarter of 2006 by becoming the largest lodging company in the world and announcing its newest brand within the Hilton family, the Waldorf=Astoria Collection. Hilton now manages The Grand Wailea Resort Hotel & Spa on Maui, La Quinta Resort & Club in La Quinta, Calif., and the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa in Phoenix as part of that new brand.

At Marriott, the 610-room JW Marriott Starr Pass in Tucson, Ariz., and the 573-room St. Kitts Marriott Resort & Royal Beach Casino, St. Kitts and Nevis, are newly built resorts with spa, golf, and local flare.

At Fairmont, the 209-room Fairmont St. Andrews Bay, Scotland, is spending more than $20 million to redo guest rooms, meeting rooms, and technological offerings. Stateside, more than $100 million has been invested in the 392-room Fairmont Turnberry Isle Resort & Club in Aventura, Fla. Guest rooms got a complete overhaul and the resort's two golf courses were redesigned. Updates to the 40,000-square-foot Conference Center and Willow Stream Spa and Fitness Center are part of the project as well.

Meanwhile, Fairmont last year was acquired by Colony Capital and Kingdom Hotels International, combining the Fairmont and Raffles portfolios.

Starwood recently opened the ultra-modern 260-room St. Regis San Francisco. Offshore, the 92-room St. Regis Bora Bora and 120-room Bora Bora Nui Resort & Spa, French Polynesia, offer island paradise settings for upscale board meetings or small incentive groups.
