Introducing W Lite
Boardroom size meeting space is in the plans for the new midprice hotel brand Starwood announced in June. The small, 90- to 180-room hotels will have one or two 650-square-foot spaces, according to Starwood officials, who say the new chain will stand out from other “select service” chains, such as Marriott International's Courtyard, for its urban style.
Starwood has temporarily dubbed the new chain Project XYZ, making reference to its successful W hotel brand, which XYZ hopes to replicate at a lower price point. The Rockwell Group, whose award-winning projects include the Kodak Theater and the W Union Square, will collaborate on the design. In addition to wireless Internet access, the properties will offer “business booths” for color printing, presentation design, and checking e-mail.
The first XYZ hotels are expected to open in early 2007.
