Rebuilding New Orleans
Organizations looking to incorporate some social responsibility into their meetings can find no more welcoming destination than New Orleans.
There, the Ritz-Carlton, New Orleans, is hoping to facilitate the process by providing clients with lists of relief agencies and their contact information. The idea, according to spokeswoman Char Schroeder, is to give interested companies the information they need to select a program and an activity that would not only appeal to attendees, but also fit in with the organization's mission.
Since the hotel reopened in December, she says, “it seems just about all of our groups are doing something.”
For example, Playworld Systems Inc. and KaBOOM helped to rebuild a New Orleans school playground during its meeting at the Ritz-Carlton from January 15-17 — although it was just one of the 70 playgrounds across the city damaged by Hurricane Katrina.
