Venues Get Spruced up for the New Year
CONNECTED VIA SKYBRIDGE to the San Diego Padres' new Petco Park, the OMNI SAN DIEGO HOTEL is across the street from the San Diego Convention Center, at the entrance to the historic Gaslamp Quarter. The 511-room hotel has more than 20,000 square feet of function space, including a 9,266-square-foot grand ballroom, and features an outdoor function area with bay views that can accommodate up to 300 guests. An 8,000-square-foot rooftop terrace is available for events. Meeting rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows and are equipped with T-1 Internet access.
HOTEL ANDALUCIA will open this month in Santa Barbara, Calif. It will feature 5,000 square feet of conference and event space for as many as 200 people. The hotel has five dedicated meeting rooms ranging from 500 square feet to 2,000 square feet. As the highest rooftop hotel venue in the city, Andalucia's outdoor terrace affords views across the red-tiled rooftops of Santa Barbara.
ELK MOUNTAIN RESORT opened last year in Ridgway, Colo., with 21 lodge rooms and 18 three-bedroom cottages 40 minutes from Telluride. In the midst of the San Juan Mountains, the resort is surrounded on three sides by national forests. The main lodge offers several meeting rooms.
THE CROWNE PLAZA SAN ANTONIO debuted last year after purchase by InterContinental Hotels and a $6.3 million update and renovation of its 410 guest rooms, lobby, restaurant, and exterior. The hotel has 37,000 square feet of meeting space. It was formerly the Adam's Mark San Antonio Riverwalk.
The CHICAGO MARRIOTT SOUTHWEST at Burr Ridge opened last year with 184 guest rooms and 11 function rooms. It is 15 miles south of downtown Chicago.
A $40 million redevelopment project is under way at THE ABBEY RESORT on Lake Geneva in Fontana, Wis., slated for completion in May. All 334 guest rooms will be refurbished, as well as public spaces and 40,000 square feet of meeting space. The 35,000-square-foot spa is also included in the project.
In Daytona Beach, Fla., the Adam's Mark Daytona Beach Resort will soon be converted into the HILTON DAYTONA BEACH RESORT after a $17.5 million refurbishment. Located across from the Ocean Center convention and civic complex and connected to the Ocean Walk Shoppes, the 742-room resort is directly on the beach.
Under construction adjacent to the 1,100-acre McKinney Roughs Nature Park along the Colorado River in central Texas, the HYATT REGENCY LOST PINES RESORT AND SPA is 20 minutes from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. Plans call for a summer 2006 opening. The resort will have 491 guest rooms, more than 50,000 square feet of indoor function space, an 18-hole golf course, and a full-service spa.
The CONRAD MIAMI opened last year on Brickell Avenue, in Miami's financial district. The Conrad has 203 guest rooms and complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the building. Meeting space, on the third floor, includes a 4,054-square-foot ballroom, eight breakout rooms, and three boardrooms.
THE QUORUM HOTEL — TAMPA, formerly the Crowne Plaza Westshore, opened in December after a $5 million renovation that included all 272 guest rooms, the exterior, and the transformation of a restaurant into 2,000 square feet of meeting space, which now totals 12,000 square feet.
THE SHERATON KEAUHOU BAY RESORT & SPA opened October 1 on the Big Island of Hawaii's Kona coastline. It features outdoor venues for as many as 1,800 people, renovated indoor meeting space for 20 to 1,200 in the Kona Convention Center, and wireless high-speed Internet access throughout the resort. The hotel underwent a $45 million renovation, which included its 522 guest rooms and suites.
